Preterm Birth (birth prior to 37 weeks gestation) is a growing global human healthcare crisis, and is the leading cause of infant death and heartbreaking morbidity within the first month of life. Each year, more than 550,000 infants are born preterm in the U.S. alone.
Risk factors include incompetent cervix and various other conditions, including: known cases of organ and tissue compromise; pregnancies involving multiple fetuses; and a growing number of women having children both later and earlier in life.
Until now, options have been limited to bed rest, cerclage (an invasive surgical procedure practiced in various forms for more than 100 years), and a few more recent and highly controversial pharmaceutical treatments which Payers are now rejecting.
Each day, nearly 3,000 babies die of complications resulting from Preterm Birth*
